Exciting Grape Varietal Traminette!
This wine is one of the most exciting new grape varietals in the Finger Lakes Region. Traminette is a first generation progeny of the famous Gewurztraminer grape as grown in the Alsace region of northeast France. The seed that gave birth to Traminette was one planted at the Geneva Experimental Station in 1968. Traminette’s heritage, however, traces back to its parent Gewurztraminer in the village of Tramin, Italy, around 1000 a.d. Working with this varietal since 1985, the winemaker can attest to Traminette’s superb wine quality which exemplifies the fresh fruit, spicy characteristic of its parent. Traminette wines now cellared for 10 years exhibit a diminished presence of spiciness but a luscious mouth-filling increase in honey and apricot flavors. It’s truly a wine to be savored for years. Enjoy Traminette with flavorful entries and particularly with cuisines from the Orient and India. It’s a perfect accompaniment with flavorful cheeses such as Brie or Camembert.
